38:21:1wahalAnd has (there)
38:21:2ʾatākᵃcome to you
38:21:3nabaʾu(the) news
38:21:4ₐlḫaṣmⁱ(of) the litigants,
38:21:6tasawwarūthey climbed over the wall
38:21:7ₐlmiḥrābᵃ(of) the chamber?
۝٢١
And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -
38:22:2daḫalūthey entered
38:22:5fafaziʕᵃand he was afraid
38:22:7qālūthey said,
38:22:8"(Do) not
38:22:10ḫaṣmānⁱ(We are) two litigants,
38:22:11baġāhas wronged
38:22:12baʕḍunāone of us
38:22:14baʕḍⁱⁿanother,
38:22:15faᵤḥkumso judge
38:22:16baynanābetween us
38:22:17biₐlḥaqqⁱin truth
38:22:18walāand (do) not

38:22:22sawāʾⁱan even
38:22:23ₐlṣṣirāṭⁱ[the] path.
۝٢٢
When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.
38:23:1ʾinnᵃIndeed,
38:23:3ʾaḫī(is) my brother,
38:23:5tisʕᵘⁿninety-nine
38:23:7naʕjaẗᵃⁿewe(s)
38:23:8walīᵃwhile I have
38:23:9naʕjaẗᵘⁿewe

38:23:11faqālᵃso he said,
38:23:12ʾakfilnīhā"Entrust her to me,"
38:23:13waʕazzanīand he overpowered me
38:23:15ₐlḫiṭābⁱ[the] speech."
۝٢٣
Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."
38:24:1qālᵃHe said,
38:24:2laqad"Certainly,
38:24:3ẓalamakᵃhe has wronged you
38:24:4bisuʾālⁱby demanding
38:24:5naʕjatikᵃyour ewe
38:24:7niʕājihihis ewes.
38:24:8waʾinnᵃAnd indeed,
38:24:11ₐlḫulaṭāʾⁱthe partners

38:24:15baʕḍⁱⁿanother
38:24:17ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
38:24:20ₐlṣṣāliḥātⁱrighteous deeds
38:24:21waqalīlᵘⁿand few
38:24:22mmā(are) they."
38:24:24waẓannᵃAnd became certain
38:24:27fatannāhᵘWe (had) tried him,
38:24:28faᵢstaġfarᵃand he asked forgiveness
38:24:29rabbahu(of) his Lord
38:24:30waḫarrᵃand fell down
38:24:31rākiʕaⁿbowing
38:24:32waʾanābᵃand turned in repentance.
۝٢٤
[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allah].
38:25:1faġafarnāSo We forgave
38:25:3ðālikᵃthat.
38:25:4waʾinnᵃAnd indeed,
38:25:6ʕindanāwith Us
38:25:7lazulfāsurely is a near access
38:25:8waḥusnᵃand a good
38:25:9maʾābⁱⁿplace of return.
۝٢٥
So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
38:26:1yādāwudᵘ"O Dawood!
38:26:2ʾinnāIndeed, We
38:26:3jaʕalnākᵃ[We] have made you

38:26:18ʾinnᵃIndeed,
38:26:19ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
38:26:20yaḍillūnᵃgo astray
38:26:22sabīlⁱ(the) way
38:26:23ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah,
38:26:25ʕaðābᵘⁿ(is) a punishment
38:26:26šadīdᵘⁿᵐsevere
38:26:27bimābecause
38:26:28nasūthey forgot
38:26:29yawmᵃ(the) Day
38:26:30ₐlḥisābⁱ(of) Account."
۝٢٦
[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
38:27:1wamāAnd not
38:27:2ḫalaqnāWe created
38:27:3ₐlssamāʾᵃthe heaven
38:27:4waₐlʾarḍᵃand the earth
38:27:5wamāand whatever
38:27:6baynahumā(is) between them
38:27:7bāṭilaⁿwithout purpose.
38:27:8ðālikᵃThat
38:27:9ẓannᵘ(is the) assumption
38:27:10ₐllaðīnᵃ(of) those who
38:27:11kafarūdisbelieve.
38:27:12fawaylᵘⁿSo woe
38:27:13llillaðīnᵃto those
38:27:14kafarūwho disbelieve,
38:27:16ₐlnnārⁱthe Fire.
۝٢٧
And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
38:28:2najʕalᵘshould We treat
38:28:3ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
38:28:6ₐlṣṣāliḥātⁱrighteous deeds
38:28:7kaₐlmufsidīnᵃlike those who spread corruption
38:28:9ₐlʾarḍⁱthe earth?
38:28:11najʕalᵘshould We treat
38:28:12ₐlmuttaqīnᵃthe pious
38:28:13kaₐlfujjārⁱlike the wicked?
۝٢٨
Or should we treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allah like the wicked?
38:29:1kitābᵘⁿ(This is) a Book
38:29:2ʾanzalnāhᵘWe have revealed it
38:29:3ʾilaykᵃto you,
38:29:4mubārakᵘⁿblessed,
38:29:5lliyaddabbarūthat they may ponder
38:29:6ʾāyātihi(over) its Verses
38:29:7waliyataðakkarᵃand may be reminded
38:29:8ʾulūthose of understanding.
۝٢٩
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
38:30:1wawahabnāAnd We gave
38:30:2lidāwudᵃto Dawood
38:30:3sulaymānᵃSulaiman,
38:30:4niʕmᵃan excellent
38:30:5ₐlʕabdᵘslave.
38:30:6ʾinnahuIndeed, he
38:30:7ʾawwābᵘⁿ(was) one who repeatedly turned.
۝٣٠
And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].
38:31:2ʕuriḍᵃwere displayed
38:31:3ʕalayhⁱto him
38:31:4biₐlʕašīīⁱin the afternoon
38:31:5ₐlṣṣāfinātᵘexcellent bred steeds.
۝٣١
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.
38:32:1faqālᵃAnd he said,
38:32:2ʾinnī"Indeed, I
38:32:3ʾaḥbabtᵘ[I] preferred
38:32:4ḥubbᵃ(the) love
38:32:5ₐlḫayrⁱ(of) the good
38:32:7ðikrⁱ(the) remembrance
38:32:8rabbī(of) my Lord."
38:32:10tawāratthey were hidden
38:32:11biₐlḥijābⁱin the veil;
۝٣٢
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
38:33:1ruddūhā"Return them
38:33:2ʕalayyᵃto me."
38:33:3faṭafiqᵃThen he began
38:33:4masḥᵃⁿᵐā(to) pass (his hand)
38:33:5biₐlssūqⁱover the legs
38:33:6waₐlʾaʕnāqⁱand the necks.
۝٣٣
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks.
38:34:1walaqadAnd certainly
38:34:2fatannāWe tried
38:34:3sulaymānᵃSulaiman,
38:34:4waʾalqaynāand We placed
38:34:7jasadaⁿa body;
38:34:8θummᵃthen
38:34:9ʾanābᵃhe turned.
۝٣٤
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned.
38:35:1qālᵃHe said,
38:35:2rabbⁱ"O my Lord!
38:35:3ᵢġfirForgive
38:35:5wahaband grant
38:35:7mulkaⁿa kingdom,
38:35:9yanᵐbaġī(will) belong
38:35:10liʾaḥadⁱⁿto anyone
38:35:11mminᵐafter me.
38:35:13ʾinnakᵃIndeed, You
38:35:14ʾantᵃ[You]
38:35:15ₐlwahhābᵘ(are) the Bestower."
۝٣٥
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."
38:36:1fasaḫḫarnāThen We subjected
38:36:2lahᵘto him
38:36:3ₐlrrīḥᵃthe wind
38:36:5biʾamrihiby his command,
38:36:6ruḫāʾᵃⁿgently,
38:36:7ḥayθᵘwherever
38:36:8ʾaṣābᵃhe directed,
۝٣٦
So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,
38:37:1waₐlššayāṭīnᵃAnd the devils,
38:37:2kullᵃevery
38:37:3bannāʾⁱⁿbuilder
38:37:4waġawwāṣⁱⁿand diver,
۝٣٧
And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver
38:38:1waʾāḫarīnᵃAnd others
38:38:4ₐlʾaṣfādⁱchains.
۝٣٨
And others bound together in shackles.
38:39:2ʕaṭāʾunā(is) Our gift,
38:39:3faᵤmnunso grant
38:39:6biġayrⁱwithout
38:39:7ḥisābⁱⁿaccount."
۝٣٩
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."
38:40:1waʾinnᵃAnd indeed,
38:40:3ʕindanāwith Us
38:40:4lazulfāsurely is a near access
38:40:5waḥusnᵃand a good
38:40:6maʾābⁱⁿplace of return.
۝٤٠
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
38:41:1waᵤðkurAnd remember
38:41:2ʕabdanāOur slave
38:41:3ʾayyūbᵃAyyub,
38:41:5nādāhe called
38:41:7ʾannī"That [I],
38:41:8massanīᵃ(has) touched me
38:41:9ₐlššayṭānᵘShaitaan
38:41:10binuṣbⁱⁿwith distress
38:41:11waʕaðābⁱⁿand suffering."
۝٤١
And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and torment."
38:42:1ᵤrkuḍ"Strike
38:42:2birijlikᵃwith your foot.
38:42:4muġtasalᵘⁿᵐ(is a spring of) water to bathe,
38:42:5bāridᵘⁿcool
38:42:6wašarābᵘⁿand a drink."
۝٤٢
[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for] a cool bath and drink."
38:43:1wawahabnāAnd We granted
38:43:3ʾahlahuhis family
38:43:4wamiθlahumand a like of them
38:43:5mmaʕahumwith them,
38:43:6raḥmaẗᵃⁿa Mercy
38:43:7mminnāfrom Us
38:43:8waðikrāand a Reminder
38:43:9liʾulīfor those of understanding.
۝٤٣
And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.
38:44:1waḫuð"And take
38:44:2biyadikᵃin your hand
38:44:3ḍiġθaⁿa bunch
38:44:4faᵢḍriband strike
38:44:6walāand (do) not
38:44:7taḥnaθbreak (your) oath."
38:44:8ʾinnāIndeed, We
38:44:9wajadnāhᵘ[We] found him
38:44:10ṣābiraⁿpatient,
38:44:11nniʕmᵃan excellent
38:44:12ₐlʕabdᵘslave.
38:44:13ʾinnahuIndeed, he
38:44:14ʾawwābᵘⁿrepeatedly turned.
۝٤٤
[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].
38:45:1waᵤðkurAnd remember
38:45:2ʕibādanāOur slaves
38:45:3ʾibrāhīmᵃIbrahim
38:45:4waʾisḥāqᵃand Isaac
38:45:5wayaʕqūbᵃand Ayyub,
38:45:6ʾulīpossessors
38:45:7ₐlʾaydī(of) strength
38:45:8waₐlʾabṣārⁱand vision.
۝٤٥
And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision.
38:46:1ʾinnāIndeed, We
38:46:2ʾaḫlaṣnāhum[We] chose them
38:46:3biḫāliṣaẗⁱⁿfor an exclusive (quality);
38:46:4ðikrāremembrance
38:46:5ₐlddārⁱ(of) the Home.
۝٤٦
Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].
38:47:1waʾinnahumAnd indeed, they
38:47:3laminᵃ(are) from
38:47:4ₐlmuṣṭafaynᵃthe chosen ones,
38:47:5ₐlʾaḫyārⁱthe best.
۝٤٧
And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.
38:48:1waᵤðkurAnd remember
38:48:2ʾismāʕīlᵃIshmael
38:48:3waₐlyasaʕᵃand Elisha
38:48:4waðāand Dhul-kifl,
38:48:6wakullᵘⁿand all
38:48:7mminᵃ(are) from
38:48:8ₐlʾaḫyārⁱthe best.
۝٤٨
And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding.
38:49:2ðikrᵘⁿ(is) a Reminder.
38:49:3waʾinnᵃAnd indeed,
38:49:4lilmuttaqīnᵃfor the righteous
38:49:5laḥusnᵃsurely, is a good
38:49:6maʾābⁱⁿplace of return,
۝٤٩
This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return
38:50:1jannātⁱGardens
38:50:2ʕadnⁱⁿ(of) Eternity,

38:51:1muttakiʾīnᵃReclining
38:51:2fīhātherein,
38:51:3yadʕūnᵃthey will call

Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.
