The Reality
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
69:1:1ₐlḥāqqaẗᵘThe Inevitable Reality!
۝١
The Inevitable Reality -
69:2:2ₐlḥāqqaẗᵘ(is) the Inevitable Reality?
۝٢
What is the Inevitable Reality?
69:3:1wamāAnd what
69:3:2ʾadrākᵃwill make you know
69:3:4ₐlḥāqqaẗᵘ(is) the Inevitable Reality?
۝٣
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
69:4:1kaððabatDenied
69:4:2θamūdᵘThamud
69:4:3waʕādᵘⁿᵐand Aad
69:4:4biₐlqāriʕaẗⁱthe Striking Calamity.
۝٤
Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.
69:5:1faʾammāSo as for
69:5:2θamūdᵘThamud,
69:5:3faʾuhlikūthey were destroyed
69:5:4biₐlṭṭāġiyaẗⁱby the overpowering (blast).
۝٥
So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].
69:6:1waʾammāAnd as for
69:6:2ʕādᵘⁿAad,
69:6:3faʾuhlikūthey were destroyed
69:6:4birīḥⁱⁿby a wind
69:6:5ṣarṣarⁱⁿscreaming
69:6:6ʕātiyaẗⁱⁿviolent,
۝٦
And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind
69:7:1saḫḫarahāWhich He imposed
69:7:2ʕalayhimupon them
69:7:3sabʕᵃ(for) seven
69:7:4layālⁱⁿnights
69:7:5waθamāniyaẗᵃand eight
69:7:6ʾayyāmⁱⁿdays
69:7:7ḥusūmaⁿ(in) succession,
69:7:8fatarāso you would see
69:7:9ₐlqawmᵃthe people
69:7:10fīhātherein
69:7:12kaʾannahumas if they were
69:7:13ʾaʕjāzᵘtrunks
69:7:14naḫlⁱⁿ(of) date-palms
69:7:15ḫāwiyaẗⁱⁿhollow.
۝٧
Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
69:8:1fahalThen do
69:8:2tarāyou see
69:8:3lahumof them
69:8:5bāqiyaẗⁱⁿremains?
۝٨
Then do you see of them any remains?
69:9:1wajāʾᵃAnd came
69:9:2firʕawnᵘFiraun,
69:9:3wamanand (those)
69:9:4qablahubefore him,
69:9:5waₐlmuʾtafikātᵘand the overturned cities
69:9:6biₐlḫāṭiʾaẗⁱwith sin.
۝٩
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
69:10:1faʕaṣawAnd they disobeyed
69:10:2rasūlᵃ(the) Messenger
69:10:3rabbihim(of) their Lord,
69:10:4faʾaḫaðahumso He seized them
69:10:5ʾaḫðaẗᵃⁿ(with) a seizure
69:10:6rrābiyaẗᵃⁿexceeding.
۝١٠
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
69:11:1ʾinnāIndeed, We
69:11:3ṭaġāoverflowed
69:11:4ₐlmāʾᵘthe water,
69:11:5ḥamalnākumWe carried you
69:11:7ₐljāriyaẗⁱthe sailing (ship).
۝١١
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship
69:12:1linajʕalahāThat We might make it
69:12:3taðkiraẗᵃⁿa reminder
69:12:4wataʕiyahāand would be conscious of it
69:12:5ʾuðunᵘⁿan ear
69:12:6wāʕiyaẗᵘⁿconscious.
۝١٢
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
69:13:1faʾiðāThen when
69:13:2nufiḫᵃis blown
69:13:4ₐlṣṣūrⁱthe trumpet -
69:13:5nafḫaẗᵘⁿa blast
69:13:6wāḥidaẗᵘⁿsingle,
۝١٣
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast
69:14:1waḥumilatⁱAnd are lifted
69:14:2ₐlʾarḍᵘthe earth
69:14:3waₐljibālᵘand the mountains
69:14:4fadukkatāand crushed
69:14:5dakkaẗᵃⁿ(with) a crushing
69:14:6wāḥidaẗᵃⁿsingle.
۝١٤
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow -
69:15:1fayawmaʾiðⁱⁿThen (on) that Day
69:15:2waqaʕatⁱwill occur
69:15:3ₐlwāqiʕaẗᵘthe Occurrence,
۝١٥
Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,
69:16:1waᵢnšaqqatⁱAnd will split
69:16:2ₐlssamāʾᵘthe heaven,
69:16:3fahīᵃso it
69:16:4yawmaʾiðⁱⁿ(is on) that Day
69:16:5wāhiyaẗᵘⁿfrail.
۝١٦
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.
69:17:1waₐlmalakᵘAnd the Angels
69:17:2ʕalā(will be) on
69:17:3ʾarjāʾihāits edges,
69:17:4wayaḥmilᵘand will bear
69:17:5ʕaršᵃ(the) Throne
69:17:6rabbikᵃ(of) your Lord
69:17:7fawqahumabove them,
69:17:8yawmaʾiðⁱⁿthat Day,
69:17:9θamāniyaẗᵘⁿeight.
۝١٧
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
69:18:1yawmaʾiðⁱⁿThat Day,
69:18:2tuʕraḍūnᵃyou will be exhibited,
69:18:4taḫfāwill be hidden
69:18:5minkumamong you
69:18:6ḫāfiyaẗᵘⁿany secret.
۝١٨
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.
69:19:1faʾammāThen as for
69:19:2man(him) who
69:19:3ʾūtīᵃis given
69:19:4kitābahuhis record
69:19:5biyamīnihiin his right hand
69:19:6fayaqūlᵘwill say,
69:19:7hāʾumᵘ"Here,
69:19:9kitābiyahmy record!
۝١٩
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!
69:20:1ʾinnīIndeed, I
69:20:2ẓanantᵘwas certain
69:20:3ʾannīthat I
69:20:4mulāqⁱⁿ(will) meet
69:20:5ḥisābiyahmy account."
۝٢٠
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."
69:21:1fahuwᵃSo he
69:21:2(will be) in
69:21:3ʕīšaẗⁱⁿa life
69:21:4rrāḍiyaẗⁱⁿpleasant,
۝٢١
So he will be in a pleasant life -
69:22:2jannaẗⁱⁿa Garden
69:22:3ʕāliyaẗⁱⁿelevated,
۝٢٢
In an elevated garden,
69:23:1quṭūfuhāIts clusters of fruits
69:23:2dāniyaẗᵘⁿhanging near.
۝٢٣
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
69:24:2waᵢšrabūand drink
69:24:3hanīʾᵃⁿᵐā(in) satisfaction
69:24:4bimāfor what
69:24:5ʾaslaftumyou sent before you
69:24:7ₐlʾayyāmⁱthe days
69:24:8ₐlḫāliyaẗⁱpast."
۝٢٤
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."
69:25:1waʾammāBut as for
69:25:2man(him) who
69:25:3ʾūtīᵃis given
69:25:4kitābahuhis record
69:25:5bišimālihiin his left hand
69:25:6fayaqūlᵘwill say,
69:25:7yālaytanī"O! I wish
69:25:9ʾūtᵃI had been given
۝٢٥
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
69:26:2ʾadrⁱI had known
69:26:4ḥisābiyah(is) my account.
۝٢٦
And had not known what is my account.
69:27:1yālaytahāO! I wish it
69:27:2kānatⁱhad been
69:27:3ₐlqāḍiyaẗᵃthe end
۝٢٧
I wish my death had been the decisive one.
69:28:2ʾaġnāhas availed
69:28:4māliyahmy wealth,
۝٢٨
My wealth has not availed me.
69:29:1halakᵃIs gone
69:29:2ʕannīfrom me
69:29:3sulṭāniyahmy authority."
۝٢٩
Gone from me is my authority."
69:30:1ḫuðūhᵘ"Seize him
69:30:2faġullūhᵘand shackle him,
۝٣٠
[Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
69:31:1θummᵃThen
69:31:2ₐljaḥīmᵃ(into) the Hellfire
69:31:3ṣallūhᵘburn him.
۝٣١
Then into Hellfire drive him.
69:32:1θummᵃThen
69:32:3silsilaẗⁱⁿa chain,
69:32:4ðarʕuhāits length
69:32:5sabʕūnᵃ(is) seventy
69:32:6ðirāʕaⁿcubits,
69:32:7faᵤslukūhᵘinsert him."
۝٣٢
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."
69:33:1ʾinnahuIndeed, he
69:33:4yuʾminᵘbelieving
69:33:5biₐllahⁱin Allah
69:33:6ₐlʕaẓīmⁱthe Most Great,
۝٣٣
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great,
69:34:1walāAnd (did) not
69:34:2yaḥuḍḍᵘfeel the urge
69:34:4ṭaʕāmⁱ(the) feeding
69:34:5ₐlmiskīnⁱ(of) the poor.
۝٣٤
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
69:35:2lahᵘfor him
69:35:5ḥamīmᵘⁿany devoted friend,
۝٣٥
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
69:36:1walāAnd not
69:36:2ṭaʕāmᵘⁿany food
69:36:3ʾillāexcept
69:36:5ġislīnⁱⁿ(the) discharge of wounds,
۝٣٦
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
69:37:2yaʾkuluhuwill eat it
69:37:3ʾillāexcept
69:37:4ₐlḫāṭiʾūnᵃthe sinners.
۝٣٧
None will eat it except the sinners.
69:38:1falāBut nay!
69:38:2ʾuqsimᵘI swear
69:38:3bimāby what
69:38:4tubṣirūnᵃyou see,
۝٣٨
So I swear by what you see
69:39:1wamāAnd what
69:39:3tubṣirūnᵃyou see,
۝٣٩
And what you do not see
69:40:1ʾinnahuIndeed, it (is)
69:40:2laqawlᵘsurely (the) Word
69:40:3rasūlⁱⁿ(of) a Messenger
69:40:4karīmⁱⁿnoble.
۝٤٠
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.
69:41:1wamāAnd not
69:41:3biqawlⁱ(is the) word
69:41:4šāʕirⁱⁿ(of) a poet;
69:41:5qalīlaⁿlittle
69:41:6mmā(is) what
69:41:7tuʾminūnᵃyou believe!
۝٤١
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
69:42:1walāAnd not
69:42:2biqawlⁱ(it is the) word
69:42:3kāhinⁱⁿ(of) a soothsayer;
69:42:4qalīlaⁿlittle
69:42:5mmā(is) what
69:42:6taðakkarūnᵃyou take heed.
۝٤٢
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
69:43:1tanzīlᵘⁿ(It is) a revelation
69:43:3rrabbⁱ(the) Lord
69:43:4ₐlʕālamīnᵃ(of) the worlds.
۝٤٣
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
69:44:2taqawwalᵃhe (had) fabricated
69:44:3ʕalaynāagainst Us
69:44:4baʕḍᵃsome
69:44:5ₐlʾaqāwīlⁱsayings,
۝٤٤
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
69:45:1laʾaḫaðnāCertainly We (would) have seized
69:45:3biₐlyamīnⁱby the right hand;
۝٤٥
We would have seized him by the right hand;
69:46:1θummᵃThen
69:46:2laqaṭaʕnācertainly We (would) have cut off
69:46:3minhᵘfrom him
69:46:4ₐlwatīnᵃthe aorta.
۝٤٦
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
69:47:1famāAnd not
69:47:2minkumfrom you
69:47:4ʾaḥadⁱⁿone
69:47:5ʕanhᵘ[from him]
69:47:6ḥājizīnᵃ(who could) prevent (it).
۝٤٧
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
69:48:1waʾinnahuAnd indeed, it
69:48:2lataðkiraẗᵘⁿ(is) surely a reminder
69:48:3llilmuttaqīnᵃfor the Allah-fearing.
۝٤٨
And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.
69:49:1waʾinnāAnd indeed, We
69:49:2lanaʕlamᵘsurely know
69:49:3ʾannᵃthat
69:49:4minkumamong you
69:49:5mmukaððibīnᵃ(are) deniers.
۝٤٩
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
69:50:1waʾinnahuAnd indeed, it
69:50:2laḥasraẗᵘⁿ(is) surely a regret
69:50:4ₐlkāfirīnᵃthe disbelievers.
۝٥٠
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
69:51:1waʾinnahuAnd indeed, it (is)
69:51:2laḥaqqᵘsurely (the) truth
69:51:3ₐlyaqīnⁱ(of) certainty.
۝٥١
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
69:52:1fasabbiḥSo glorify
69:52:2biᵢsmⁱ(the) name
69:52:3rabbikᵃ(of) your Lord,
69:52:4ₐlʕaẓīmⁱthe Most Great.
۝٥٢
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
