۝٨
And when adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him [alone]; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets Him whom he called upon before, and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire."

Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? 39:19:1ʾafamanThen, is (one) who,

Then, is one who has deserved the decree of punishment [to be guided]? Then, can you save one who is in the Fire?

۝٢٠
But those who have feared their Lord - for them are chambers, above them chambers built high, beneath which rivers flow. [This is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in [His] promise.
39:21:2tarᵃyou see
39:21:3ʾannᵃthat
39:21:4ₐllahᵃAllah
39:21:5ʾanzalᵃsends down

39:21:9fasalakahuand He makes it flow
39:21:10yanābīʕᵃ(as) springs
39:21:12ₐlʾarḍⁱthe earth;
39:21:13θummᵃthen
39:21:14yuḫrijᵘHe produces

39:21:23θummᵃthen
39:21:24yajʕaluhuHe makes them
39:21:25ḥuṭāmaⁿdebris?
39:21:26ʾinnᵃIndeed,
39:21:29laðikrāsurely, (is) a reminder
39:21:30liʾulīfor those of understanding.
۝٢١
Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs [and rivers] in the earth; then He produces thereby crops of varying colors; then they dry and you see them turned yellow; then He makes them [scattered] debris. Indeed in that is a reminder for those of understanding.
39:22:1ʾafamanSo is (one for) whom
39:22:2šaraḥᵃAllah has expanded
39:22:4ṣadrahuhis breast
39:22:5lilʾislāmⁱfor Islam
39:22:6fahuwᵃso he
39:22:7ʕalā(is) upon
39:22:8nūrⁱⁿa light
39:22:11fawaylᵘⁿSo woe
39:22:12llilqāsiyaẗⁱto (those are) hardened
39:22:13qulūbuhumtheir hearts
39:22:15ðikrⁱ(the) remembrance of Allah.
39:22:18(are) in
39:22:19ḍalālⁱⁿerror
39:22:20mmubīnⁱⁿclear.
۝٢٢
So is one whose breast Allah has expanded to [accept] Islam and he is upon a light from his Lord [like one whose heart rejects it]? Then woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in manifest error.
39:23:1ₐllahᵘAllah
39:23:2nazzalᵃhas revealed
39:23:3ʾaḥsanᵃ(the) best

39:23:8taqšaʕirrᵘShiver
39:23:9minhᵘfrom it
39:23:10julūdᵘ(the) skins
39:23:11ₐllaðīnᵃ(of) those who

39:23:20ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah.
39:23:22hudā(is the) guidance
39:23:23ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah,
39:23:24yahdīHe guides
39:23:27yašāʾᵘHe wills.
39:23:28wamanAnd whoever
39:23:29yuḍlilⁱAllah lets go astray
39:23:31famāthen not
39:23:34hādⁱⁿguide.
۝٢٣
Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.
39:24:1ʾafamanThen (is) he who
39:24:2yattaqīwill shield
39:24:3biwajhihiwith his face
39:24:4sūʾᵃ(the) worst
39:24:5ₐlʕaðābⁱpunishment
39:24:6yawmᵃ(on the) Day
39:24:7ₐlqiyāmaẗⁱ(of) the Resurrection?
39:24:8waqīlᵃAnd it will be said
39:24:9lilẓẓālimīnᵃto the wrongdoers,
39:24:12kuntumyou used to
۝٢٤
Then is he who will shield with his face the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection [like one secure from it]? And it will be said to the wrongdoers, "Taste what you used to earn."
39:25:1kaððabᵃDenied
39:25:2ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
39:25:3min(were) before them,
39:25:5faʾatāhumᵘso came upon them
39:25:6ₐlʕaðābᵘthe punishment
39:25:8ḥayθᵘwhere
39:25:10yašʕurūnᵃthey perceive.
۝٢٥
Those before them denied, and punishment came upon them from where they did not perceive.
39:26:1faʾaðāqahumᵘSo Allah made them
39:26:3ₐlḫizāᵃthe disgrace
39:26:5ₐlḥayawẗⁱthe life
39:26:6ₐlddunyā(of) the world,
39:26:7walaʕaðābᵘand certainly (the) punishment
39:26:8ₐlʾāḫiraẗⁱ(of) the Hereafter
39:26:9ʾakbarᵘ(is) greater,
۝٢٦
So Allah made them taste disgrace in worldly life. But the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.
39:27:1walaqadAnd indeed,
39:27:2ḍarabnāWe have set forth
39:27:3lilnnāsⁱfor people
39:27:8kullⁱevery
39:27:9maθalⁱⁿexample
39:27:10llaʕallahumso that they may
39:27:11yataðakkarūnᵃtake heed.
۝٢٧
And We have certainly presented for the people in this Qur'an from every [kind of] example - that they might remember.
39:28:1qurʾānaⁿA Quran
39:28:2ʕarabiyyaⁿ(in) Arabic
39:28:3ġayrᵃwithout
39:28:5ʕiwajⁱⁿcrookedness
39:28:6llaʕallahumso that they may
39:28:7yattaqūnᵃ(become) righteous.
۝٢٨
[It is] an Arabic Qur'an, without any deviance that they might become righteous.
39:29:1ḍarabᵃAllah sets forth
39:29:3maθalaⁿan example -
39:29:5fīhⁱabout him
39:29:6šurakāʾᵘpartners
39:29:7mutašākisūnᵃquarreling
39:29:8warajulaⁿand a man
39:29:9salamaⁿ(belonging) exclusively
39:29:10llirajulⁱⁿto one man -
39:29:12yastawiyānⁱthey both equal
39:29:13maθalaⁿ(in) comparison?
39:29:14ₐlḥamdᵘAll praise
39:29:15lillahⁱ(be) to Allah!
39:29:17ʾakθaruhummost of them
39:29:18(do) not
۝٢٩
Allah presents an example: a slave owned by quarreling partners and another belonging exclusively to one man - are they equal in comparison? Praise be to Allah! But most of them do not know.
39:30:1ʾinnakᵃIndeed, you
39:30:2mayyitᵘⁿwill die
39:30:3waʾinnahumand indeed, they
39:30:4mmayyitūnᵃ(will also) die.
۝٣٠
Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die.
39:31:1θummᵃThen
39:31:2ʾinnakumindeed you,
39:31:3yawmᵃ(on the) Day
39:31:4ₐlqiyāmaẗⁱ(of) the Resurrection,
39:31:5ʕindᵃbefore
39:31:6rabbikumyour Lord,
39:31:7taḫtaṣimūnᵃwill dispute.
۝٣١
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord, will dispute.
