12:53:1wamā"And not
12:53:2ʾubarriʾᵘI absolve
12:53:4ʾinnᵃIndeed,
12:53:5ₐlnnafsᵃthe soul
12:53:6laʾammāraẗᵘⁿᵐ(is) a certain enjoiner
12:53:7biₐlssūʾⁱof evil,

12:53:12ʾinnᵃIndeed,
12:53:14ġafūrᵘⁿ(is) Oft-Forgiving,
12:53:15rraḥīmᵘⁿMost Merciful."
۝٥٣
And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."
12:54:1waqālᵃAnd said
12:54:2ₐlmalikᵘthe king,
12:54:3ᵤʾtūnī"Bring him to me;
12:54:5ʾastaḫliṣhᵘI will select him
12:54:6linafsīfor myself."
12:54:7falammāThen when
12:54:8kallamahuhe spoke to him,
12:54:9qālᵃhe said,
12:54:10ʾinnakᵃ"Indeed, you
12:54:11ₐlyawmᵃ(are) today
12:54:13makīnᵘⁿfirmly established
12:54:14ʾamīnᵘⁿ(and) trusted."
۝٥٤
And the king said, "Bring him to me; I will appoint him exclusively for myself." And when he spoke to him, he said, "Indeed, you are today established [in position] and trusted."
12:55:1qālᵃHe said,
12:55:2ᵢjʕalnī"Appoint me

12:55:6ʾinnīIndeed, I

۝٥٥
[Joseph] said, "Appoint me over the storehouses of the land. Indeed, I will be a knowing guardian."
12:56:1wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
12:56:2makkannāWe established
12:56:3liyūsufᵃ[to] Yusuf
12:56:5ₐlʾarḍⁱthe land
12:56:6yatabawwaʾᵘto settle
12:56:8ḥayθᵘwhere ever
12:56:9yašāʾᵘhe willed.
12:56:10nuṣībᵘWe bestow

12:56:13nnašāʾᵘWe will.
12:56:14walāAnd not
12:56:15nuḍīʕᵘWe let go waste
12:56:16ʾajrᵃ(the) reward
12:56:17ₐlmuḥsinīnᵃ(of) the good-doers.
۝٥٦
And thus We established Joseph in the land to settle therein wherever he willed. We touch with Our mercy whom We will, and We do not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.
12:57:1walaʾajrᵘAnd surely (the) reward
12:57:2ₐlʾāḫiraẗⁱ(of) the Hereafter
12:57:3ḫayrᵘⁿ(is) better
12:57:4llillaðīnᵃfor those who
12:57:7yattaqūnᵃGod conscious.
۝٥٧
And the reward of the Hereafter is better for those who believed and were fearing Allah.
12:58:1wajāʾᵃAnd came
12:58:2ʾiḫwaẗᵘ(the) brothers
12:58:3yūsufᵃ(of) Yusuf
12:58:4fadaḫalūand they entered

12:58:6faʕarafahumand he recognized them,
12:58:7wahumbut they
12:58:8lahuknew him not.
۝٥٨
And the brothers of Joseph came [seeking food], and they entered upon him; and he recognized them, but he was to them unknown.
12:59:1walammāAnd when
12:59:2jahhazahumhe had furnished them
12:59:3bijahāzihimwith their supplies,
12:59:4qālᵃhe said,
12:59:5ᵤʾtūnī"Bring to me
12:59:6biʾaḫⁱⁿa brother

12:59:17ₐlmunzilīnᵃ(of) the hosts?
۝٥٩
And when he had furnished them with their supplies, he said, "Bring me a brother of yours from your father. Do not you see that I give full measure and that I am the best of accommodators?
12:60:1faʾinBut if
12:60:3taʾtūnīyou bring him to me
12:60:5falāthen (there will be) no
12:60:6kaylᵃmeasure

12:60:9walāand not
12:60:10taqrabūnⁱyou will come near me."
۝٦٠
But if you do not bring him to me, no measure will there be [hereafter] for you from me, nor will you approach me."
12:61:1qālūThey said,
12:61:2sanurāwidᵘ"We will try to get permission
12:61:3ʕanhᵘfor him
12:61:4ʾabāhᵘ(from) his father,
12:61:5waʾinnāand indeed we,
12:61:6lafāʕilūnᵃsurely will do."
۝٦١
They said, "We will attempt to dissuade his father from [keeping] him, and indeed, we will do [it]."
12:62:1waqālᵃAnd he said
12:62:2lifityānihⁱto his servants,

۝٦٢
And [Joseph] said to his servants, "Put their merchandise into their saddlebags so they might recognize it when they have gone back to their people that perhaps they will [again] return."
12:63:2rajaʕūthey returned
12:63:4ʾabīhimtheir father,
12:63:5qālūthey said,
12:63:6yāʾabānā"O our father!
12:63:7muniʕᵃHas been denied
12:63:9ₐlkaylᵘthe measure,
12:63:12ʾaḫānāour brother

12:63:14waʾinnāAnd indeed, we
12:63:16laḥāfiẓūnᵃ(will) surely (be) guardians."
۝٦٣
So when they returned to their father, they said, "O our father, [further] measure has been denied to us, so send with us our brother [that] we will be given measure. And indeed, we will be his guardians."
12:64:1qālᵃHe said,
12:64:2hal"Should
12:64:3ʾāmanukumI entrust you
12:64:4ʕalayhⁱwith him
12:64:5ʾillāexcept
12:64:7ʾamintukumI entrusted you
12:64:9ʾaḫīhⁱhis brother

12:64:12faₐllahᵘBut Allah

12:64:17ₐlrrāḥimīnᵃ(of) the merciful."
۝٦٤
He said, "Should I entrust you with him except [under coercion] as I entrusted you with his brother before? But Allah is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful."
12:65:1walammāAnd when
12:65:2fataḥūthey opened
12:65:3matāʕahumtheir baggage,
12:65:4wajadūthey found
12:65:5biḍāʕatahumtheir merchandise
12:65:6ruddatreturned
12:65:8qālūThey said,
12:65:9yāʾabānā"O our father!
12:65:11nabġī(could) we desire?
12:65:13biḍāʕatunā(is) our merchandise

12:65:24kaylᵘⁿ(is) a measurement
12:65:25yasīrᵘⁿeasy."
۝٦٥
And when they opened their baggage, they found their merchandise returned to them. They said, "O our father, what [more] could we desire? This is our merchandise returned to us. And we will obtain supplies for our family and protect our brother and obtain an increase of a camel's load; that is an easy measurement."
12:66:1qālᵃHe said,
12:66:3ʾursilahuwill I send him
12:66:4maʕakumwith you
12:66:6tuʾtūnⁱyou give to me
12:66:7mawθiqaⁿa promise
12:66:9ₐllahⁱAllah
12:66:10lataʾtunnanīthat surely you will bring him to me
12:66:14yuḥāṭᵃyou are surrounded."
12:66:17ʾātawhᵘthey had given him
12:66:18mawθiqahumtheir promise,
12:66:19qālᵃhe said,
12:66:20ₐllahᵘ"Allah
12:66:23naqūlᵘwe say
12:66:24wakīlᵘⁿ(is) a Guardian."
۝٦٦
[Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded by enemies." And when they had given their promise, he said, "Allah, over what we say, is Witness."
12:67:1waqālᵃAnd he said,
12:67:2yābanīīᵃ"O my sons!

۝٦٧
And he said, "O my sons, do not enter from one gate but enter from different gates; and I cannot avail you against [the decree of] Allah at all. The decision is only for Allah; upon Him I have relied, and upon Him let those who would rely [indeed] rely."
12:68:1walammāAnd when
12:68:2daḫalūthey entered
12:68:4ḥayθᵘwhere
12:68:5ʾamarahumordered them
12:68:6ʾabūhumtheir father,
12:68:9yuġnīavail(ed)

12:68:20qaḍāhāwhich he carried out.
12:68:21waʾinnahuAnd indeed, he
12:68:22laðū(was) a possessor

12:68:25ʕallamnāhᵘWe had taught him,
12:68:28ₐlnnāsⁱ(of) the people
12:68:29(do) not
۝٦٨
And when they entered from where their father had ordered them, it did not avail them against Allah at all except [it was] a need within the soul of Jacob, which he satisfied. And indeed, he was a possessor of knowledge because of what We had taught him, but most of the people do not know.
12:69:1walammāAnd when
12:69:2daḫalūthey entered
12:69:4yūsufᵃYusuf,
12:69:6ʾilayhⁱto himself
12:69:7ʾaḫāhᵘhis brother.
12:69:8qālᵃHe said,
12:69:9ʾinnī"Indeed, I

And when they entered upon Joseph, he took his brother to himself; he said, "Indeed, I am your brother, so do not despair over what they used to do [to me]."
12:70:2jahhazahumhe had furnished them
12:70:3bijahāzihimwith their supplies,
12:70:4jaʕalᵃhe put
12:70:5ₐlssiqāyaẗᵃthe drinking cup
12:70:7raḥlⁱthe bag
12:70:8ʾaḫīhⁱ(of) his brother.
12:70:9θummᵃThen
12:70:10ʾaððanᵃcalled out
12:70:11muʾaððinᵘⁿan announcer
12:70:13ₐlʕīrᵘ(in) the caravan!
12:70:14ʾinnakumIndeed, you
12:70:15lasāriqūnᵃsurely (are) thieves."
۝٧٠
So when he had furnished them with their supplies, he put the [gold measuring] bowl into the bag of his brother. Then an announcer called out, "O caravan, indeed you are thieves."
12:71:2waʾaqbalūturning towards
12:71:4mmāðā"What (is it)
12:71:5tafqidūnᵃyou miss?"
۝٧١
They said while approaching them, "What is it you are missing?"
12:72:1qālūThey said,
12:72:2nafqidᵘ"We are missing
12:72:3ṣuwāʕᵃ(the) cup
12:72:4ₐlmalikⁱ(of) the king.
12:72:5walimanAnd for (one) who
12:72:6jāʾᵃbrings
12:72:8ḥimlᵘ(is) a load
12:72:9baʕīrⁱⁿ(of) a camel,
12:72:12zaʕīmᵘⁿ(is) responsible."
۝٧٢
They said, "We are missing the measure of the king. And for he who produces it is [the reward of] a camel's load, and I am responsible for it."
12:73:1qālūThey said,
12:73:2taₐllahⁱ"By Allah
12:73:3laqadcertainly
12:73:4ʕalimtumyou know,
12:73:6jiʾnāwe came
12:73:7linufsidᵃthat we cause corruption
12:73:9ₐlʾarḍⁱthe land,
12:73:10wamāand not
12:73:12sāriqīnᵃthieves."
۝٧٣
They said, "By Allah, you have certainly known that we did not come to cause corruption in the land, and we have not been thieves."
12:74:1qālūThey said,
12:74:2famā"Then what
12:74:3jazāʾuhu(will be the) recompense (of) it
12:74:6kāðibīnᵃliars."
۝٧٤
The accusers said, "Then what would be its recompense if you should be liars?"
12:75:1qālūThey said,
12:75:2jazāʾuhu"Its recompense
12:75:3man(is that one) who,
12:75:4wujidᵃit is found
12:75:6raḥlihihis bag,
12:75:7fahuwᵃthen he
12:75:8jazāʾuhu(will be) his recompense.
12:75:10najzī(do) we recompense
12:75:11ₐlẓẓālimīnᵃthe wrongdoers."
۝٧٥
[The brothers] said, "Its recompense is that he in whose bag it is found - he [himself] will be its recompense. Thus do we recompense the wrongdoers."
12:76:1fabadaʾᵃSo he began
12:76:2biʾawʕiyatihimwith their bags
12:76:3qablᵃbefore
12:76:4wiʕāʾⁱ(the) bag
12:76:5ʾaḫīhⁱ(of) his brother;
12:76:6θummᵃthen
12:76:7ᵢstaḫrajahāhe brought it out
12:76:9wiʕāʾⁱ(the) bag
12:76:10ʾaḫīhⁱ(of) his brother.
12:76:12kidnā(did) We plan
12:76:13liyūsufᵃfor Yusuf.
12:76:14He could not
12:76:16liyaʾḫuðᵃtake
12:76:17ʾaḫāhᵘhis brother
12:76:19dīnⁱthe law
12:76:20ₐlmalikⁱ(of) the king,
12:76:23yašāʾᵃAllah willed.
12:76:25narfaʕᵘWe raise
12:76:26darajātⁱⁿ(in) degrees
12:76:28nnašāʾᵘWe will,
12:76:29wafawqᵃbut over
12:76:30kullⁱevery
12:76:31ðīpossessor
12:76:32ʕilmⁱⁿ(of) knowledge
12:76:33ʕalīmᵘⁿ(is) the All-Knower.
۝٧٦
So he began [the search] with their bags before the bag of his brother; then he extracted it from the bag of his brother. Thus did We plan for Joseph. He could not have taken his brother within the religion of the king except that Allah willed. We raise in degrees whom We will, but over every possessor of knowledge is one [more] knowing.
