The Prohibition
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
66:1:2ₐlnnabīīᵘProphet!
66:1:3limᵃWhy (do)
66:1:4tuḥarrimᵘyou prohibit
66:1:6ʾaḥallᵃhas made lawful
66:1:7ₐllahᵘAllah
66:1:8lakᵃfor you,
66:1:9tabtaġīseeking
66:1:10marḍātᵃ(to) please
66:1:11ʾazwājikᵃyour wives?
66:1:12waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
66:1:13ġafūrᵘⁿ(is) Oft-Forgiving,
66:1:14rraḥīmᵘⁿMost Merciful.
۝١
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
66:2:1qadIndeed,
66:2:2faraḍᵃhas ordained
66:2:3ₐllahᵘAllah
66:2:4lakumfor you
66:2:5taḥillaẗᵃ(the) dissolution
66:2:6ʾaymānikum(of) your oaths.
66:2:7waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
66:2:8mawlākum(is) your Protector
66:2:9wahuwᵃand He
66:2:10ₐlʕalīmᵘ(is) the All-Knower,
66:2:11ₐlḥakīmᵘthe All-Wise.
۝٢
Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise.
66:3:1waʾiðAnd when
66:3:2ʾasarrᵃconfided
66:3:3ₐlnnabīīᵘthe Prophet
66:3:5baʕḍⁱone
66:3:6ʾazwājihi(of) his wives
66:3:7ḥadīθaⁿa statement,
66:3:8falammāand when
66:3:9nabbaʾatshe informed
66:3:10bihiabout it
66:3:11waʾaẓharahᵘand made it apparent
66:3:12ₐllahᵘAllah
66:3:13ʕalayhⁱto him,
66:3:14ʕarrafᵃhe made known
66:3:15baʕḍahua part of it
66:3:16waʾaʕraḍᵃand avoided
66:3:17ʕanᵐ[of]
66:3:18baʕḍⁱⁿa part.
66:3:19falammāThen when
66:3:20nabbaʾahāhe informed her
66:3:21bihiabout it,
66:3:22qālatshe said,
66:3:24ʾanᵐbaʾakᵃinformed you
66:3:25hāðāthis?"
66:3:26qālᵃHe said,
66:3:27nabbaʾanīᵃ"Has informed me
66:3:28ₐlʕalīmᵘthe All-Knower,
66:3:29ₐlḫabīrᵘthe All-Aware."
۝٣
And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allah showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Acquainted."
66:4:2tatūbāyou both turn
66:4:4ₐllahⁱAllah,
66:4:5faqadso indeed,
66:4:6ṣaġat(are) inclined
66:4:7qulūbukumāyour hearts;
66:4:8waʾinbut if
66:4:9taẓāharāyou backup each other
66:4:10ʕalayhⁱagainst him,
66:4:11faʾinnᵃthen indeed,
66:4:12ₐllahᵃAllah,
66:4:14mawlāhᵘ(is) his Protector,
66:4:15wajibrīlᵘand Jibreel,
66:4:16waṣāliḥᵘand (the) righteous
66:4:17ₐlmuʾminīnᵃbelievers,

66:4:19baʕdᵃafter
66:4:20ðālikᵃthat
66:4:21ẓahīrᵘⁿ(are his) assistants.
۝٤
If you two [wives] repent to Allah, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allah is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.
66:5:1ʕasāPerhaps
66:5:2rabbuhuhis Lord,
66:5:4ṭallaqakunnᵃhe divorced you,
66:5:5ʾan[that]
66:5:6yubdilahuHe will substitute for him
66:5:8ḫayraⁿbetter
66:5:9mminkunnᵃthan you
66:5:10muslimātⁱⁿsubmissive,
66:5:11mmuʾminātⁱⁿfaithful,
66:5:12qānitātⁱⁿobedient,
66:5:13tāʾibātⁱⁿrepentant,

66:5:15sāʾiḥātⁱⁿwho fast,
66:5:16θayyibātⁱⁿpreviously married
66:5:17waʾabkāraⁿand virgins.
۝٥
Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allah], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins.
66:6:2ₐllaðīnᵃ(you) who
66:6:5ʾanfusakumyourselves

66:6:19ʾamarahumHe Commands them
66:6:20wayafʕalūnᵃbut they do
66:6:22yuʾmarūnᵃthey are commanded.
۝٦
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded.
66:7:2ₐllaðīnᵃ(you) who
66:7:3kafarūdisbelieve!
66:7:4(Do) not

66:7:8tujzawnᵃyou will be recompensed
66:7:9(for) what
66:7:10kuntumyou used to
۝٧
O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses that Day. You will only be recompensed for what you used to do.
66:8:2ₐllaðīnᵃ(you) who believe
66:8:6ₐllahⁱAllah
66:8:7tawbaẗᵃⁿ(in) repentance
66:8:8nnaṣūḥaⁿsincere!
66:8:9ʕasāPerhaps
66:8:10rabbukumyour Lord

66:8:25ₐlnnabīīᵃthe Prophet
66:8:26waₐllaðīnᵃand those who

66:8:34yaqūlūnᵃthey will say,
66:8:35rabbanā"Our Lord
66:8:38nūranāour light
66:8:39waᵢġfirand grant forgiveness
66:8:41ʾinnakᵃIndeed, You
66:8:42ʕalā(are) over
66:8:43kullⁱevery
66:8:44šayʾⁱⁿthing
66:8:45qadīrᵘⁿAll-Powerful."
۝٨
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent."
66:9:2ₐlnnabīīᵘProphet!
66:9:3jāhidⁱStrive
66:9:4ₐlkuffārᵃ(against) the disbelievers
66:9:5waₐlmunāfiqīnᵃand the hypocrites,
66:9:6waᵤġluẓand be stern
66:9:7ʕalayhimwith them.
66:9:8wamaʾwāhumAnd their abode
66:9:9jahannamᵘ(is) Hell,
66:9:10wabiʾsᵃand wretched is
66:9:11ₐlmaṣīrᵘthe destination.
۝٩
O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.
66:10:1ḍarabᵃPresents
66:10:2ₐllahᵘAllah
66:10:3maθalaⁿan example
66:10:4llillaðīnᵃfor those who

66:10:23waqīlᵃand it was said,
66:10:24ᵤdḫulā"Enter
66:10:25ₐlnnārᵃthe Fire
66:10:26maʕᵃwith
66:10:27ₐlddāḫilīnᵃthose who enter."
۝١٠
Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so those prophets did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."
66:11:1waḍarabᵃAnd presents
66:11:2ₐllahᵘAllah
66:11:3maθalaⁿan example
66:11:4llillaðīnᵃfor those who
66:11:5ʾāmanūbelieved -
66:11:6ᵢmraʾatᵃ(the) wife
66:11:7firʕawnᵃ(of) Firaun,
66:11:9qālatshe said,
66:11:10rabbⁱ"My Lord!

66:11:21wanajjinīand save me
66:11:23ₐlqawmⁱthe people
66:11:24ₐlẓẓālimīnᵃthe wrongdoers."
۝١١
And Allah presents an example of those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, "My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people."
66:12:1wamaryamᵃAnd Maryam,
66:12:2ᵢbnatᵃ(the) daughter
66:12:3ʕimrānᵃ(of) Imran

66:12:6farjahāher chastity,

66:12:14wakutubihiand His Books,
66:12:15wakānatand she was
66:12:17ₐlqānitīnᵃthe devoutly obedient.
۝١٢
And [the example of] Mary, the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We blew into [her garment] through Our angel, and she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.
