40:21:2yasīrūthey travel
40:21:4ₐlʾarḍⁱthe earth
40:21:8ʕāqibaẗᵘ(the) end
40:21:9ₐllaðīnᵃ(of) those who
40:21:11minbefore them?
40:21:15ʾašaddᵃsuperior
40:21:17quwwaẗᵃⁿ(in) strength
40:21:18waʾāθāraⁿand (in) impressions
40:21:20ₐlʾarḍⁱthe land,
40:21:21faʾaḫaðahumᵘbut Allah seized them
40:21:23biðunūbihimfor their sins,
40:21:24wamāand not
40:21:26lahumfor them
40:21:27mminᵃagainst
40:21:28ₐllahⁱAllah
40:21:30wāqⁱⁿprotector.
۝٢١
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector.
40:22:1ðālikᵃThat
40:22:2biʾannahum(was) because [they]
40:22:3kānatused to come to them
40:22:5rusuluhumtheir Messengers
40:22:6biₐlbayyinātⁱwith clear proofs
40:22:7fakafarūbut they disbelieved,
40:22:8faʾaḫaðahumᵘSo Allah seized them.
40:22:10ʾinnahuIndeed, He
40:22:11qawīīᵘⁿ(is) All-Strong,
40:22:12šadīdᵘsevere
40:22:13ₐlʕiqābⁱ(in) punishment.
۝٢٢
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.
40:23:1walaqadAnd certainly,
40:23:4biʾāyātināwith Our Signs
40:23:5wasulṭānⁱⁿand an authority
40:23:6mmubīnⁱⁿclear,
۝٢٣
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority
40:24:2firʕawnᵃFiraun,
40:24:4waqārūnᵃand Qarun,
40:24:5faqālūbut they said,
40:24:6sāḥirᵘⁿ"A magician,
40:24:7kaððābᵘⁿa liar."
۝٢٤
To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun; but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar."
40:25:1falammāThen when
40:25:2jāʾahumhe brought to them
40:25:3biₐlḥaqqⁱthe truth
40:25:6qālūthey said,
40:25:8ʾabnāʾᵃ(the) sons
40:25:9ₐllaðīnᵃ(of) those who
40:25:11maʕahuwith him,
40:25:12waᵢstaḥyūand let live
40:25:13nisāʾahumtheir women."
40:25:14wamāAnd not
40:25:15kaydᵘ(is the) plot
40:25:16ₐlkāfirīnᵃ(of) the disbelievers
40:25:19ḍalālⁱⁿerror.
۝٢٥
And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.
40:26:1waqālᵃAnd said
40:26:2firʕawnᵘFiraun,
40:26:3ðarūnī"Leave me
40:26:4ʾaqtul(so that) I kill
40:26:6walyadʕᵘand let him call
40:26:8ʾinnīIndeed, I
40:26:9ʾaḫāfᵘ[I] fear
40:26:11yubaddilᵃhe will change
40:26:12dīnakumyour religion
40:26:15yuẓhirᵃhe may cause to appear
40:26:17ₐlʾarḍⁱthe land
40:26:18ₐlfasādᵃthe corruption."
۝٢٦
And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land."
40:27:1waqālᵃAnd said
40:27:3ʾinnī"Indeed, I
40:27:4ʕuðtᵘ[I] seek refuge
40:27:5birabbīin my Lord
40:27:6warabbikumand your Lord
40:27:8kullⁱevery
40:27:9mutakabbirⁱⁿarrogant one
40:27:11yuʾminᵘwho believes
40:27:12biyawmⁱ(in the) Day
40:27:13ₐlḥisābⁱ(of) the Account."
۝٢٧
But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account."
40:28:1waqālᵃAnd said
40:28:2rajulᵘⁿa man,
40:28:3mmuʾminᵘⁿbelieving,
40:28:5ʾālⁱ(the) family
40:28:6firʕawnᵃ(of) Firaun
40:28:7yaktumᵘwho conceal(ed)
40:28:8ʾīmānahuhis faith,
40:28:9ʾataqtulūnᵃ"Will you kill
40:28:11ʾanbecause
40:28:12yaqūlᵃhe says,
40:28:13rabbīᵃ"My Lord
40:28:14ₐllahᵘ(is) Allah,"
40:28:15waqadand indeed
40:28:16jāʾakumhe has brought you
40:28:17biₐlbayyinātⁱclear proofs
40:28:19rrabbikumyour Lord?
40:28:20waʾinAnd if
40:28:21yakᵘhe is
40:28:22kāðibaⁿa liar,
40:28:23faʕalayhⁱthen upon him
40:28:24kaðibuhu(is) his lie;
40:28:25waʾinand if
40:28:26yakᵘhe is
40:28:27ṣādiqaⁿtruthful,
40:28:28yuṣibkum(there) will strike you
40:28:29baʕḍᵘsome (of)
40:28:30ₐllaðī(that) which
40:28:31yaʕidukumhe threatens you.
40:28:32ʾinnᵃIndeed,
40:28:33ₐllahᵃAllah
40:28:34(does) not
40:28:36man(one) who
40:28:38musrifᵘⁿ(is) a transgressor,
40:28:39kaððābᵘⁿa liar.
۝٢٨
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.
40:29:1yāqawmⁱO my people!
40:29:2lakumᵘFor you
40:29:3ₐlmulkᵘ(is) the kingdom
40:29:4ₐlyawmᵃtoday,
40:29:5ẓāhirīnᵃdominant
40:29:7ₐlʾarḍⁱthe land,
40:29:8famanbut who
40:29:9yanṣurunāwill help us
40:29:11baʾsⁱ(the) punishment
40:29:12ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah,
40:29:14jāʾanāit came to us."
40:29:18ʾurīkumI show you
40:29:23ʾahdīkumI guide you
40:29:25sabīlᵃ(to the) path
40:29:26ₐlrrašādⁱthe right."
۝٢٩
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."
40:30:1waqālᵃAnd said
40:30:2ₐllaðī(he) who
40:30:3ʾāmanᵃbelieved,
40:30:4yāqawmⁱ"O my people!
40:30:5ʾinnīIndeed I,
40:30:6ʾaḫāfᵘ[I] fear
40:30:9yawmⁱ(the) day
40:30:10ₐlʾaḥzābⁱ(of) the companies,
۝٣٠
And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies -
40:31:2daʾbⁱ(the) plight
40:31:3qawmⁱ(of the) people
40:31:4nūḥⁱⁿ(of) Nuh
40:31:5waʕādⁱⁿand Aad
40:31:6waθamūdᵃand Thamud
40:31:7waₐllaðīnᵃand those
40:31:8minᵐafter them.
40:31:10wamāAnd Allah (does) not
40:31:13ẓulmaⁿinjustice
40:31:14llilʕibādⁱfor (His) slaves.
۝٣١
Like the custom of the people of Noah and of 'Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants.
40:32:1wayāqawmⁱAnd O my people!
40:32:2ʾinnīIndeed, I
40:32:3ʾaḫāfᵘ[I] fear
40:32:5yawmᵃ(the) Day
40:32:6ₐlttanādⁱ(of) Calling,
۝٣٢
And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling -
40:33:2tuwallūnᵃyou will turn back
40:33:3mudbirīnᵃfleeing;
40:33:5lakumfor you
40:33:7ₐllahⁱAllah
40:33:9ʕāṣimⁱⁿprotector.
40:33:10wamanAnd whoever
40:33:11yuḍlilⁱAllah lets go astray,
40:33:13famāthen not
40:33:16hādⁱⁿguide.
۝٣٣
The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah leaves astray - there is not for him any guide.
40:34:1walaqadAnd indeed,
40:34:2jāʾakumcame to you
40:34:3yūsufᵘYusuf
40:34:4minbefore
40:34:6biₐlbayyinātⁱwith clear proofs,
40:34:7famābut not
40:34:8ziltumyou ceased
40:34:10šakkⁱⁿdoubt
40:34:11mmimmāabout what
40:34:12jāʾakumhe brought to you
40:34:13bihi[with it],
40:34:16halakᵃhe died,
40:34:19yabʕaθᵃwill Allah raise
40:34:21minᵐafter him
40:34:23rasūlaⁿa Messenger."
40:34:25yuḍillᵘAllah lets go astray
40:34:29musrifᵘⁿ(is) a transgressor,
40:34:30mmurtābᵘⁿa doubter."
۝٣٤
And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."
40:35:1ₐllaðīnᵃThose who
40:35:2yujādilūnᵃdispute
40:35:3concerning
40:35:4ʾāyātⁱ(the) Signs
40:35:5ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah
40:35:6biġayrⁱwithout
40:35:7sulṭānⁱⁿany authority
40:35:8ʾatāhum(having) come to them,
40:35:9kaburᵃ(it) is greatly
40:35:10maqtaⁿhateful
40:35:11ʕindᵃnear Allah
40:35:13waʕindᵃand near
40:35:14ₐllaðīnᵃthose
40:35:15ʾāmanūwho believe.
40:35:17yaṭbaʕᵘAllah sets a seal
40:35:20kullⁱevery
40:35:22mutakabbirⁱⁿ(of) an arrogant
40:35:23jabbārⁱⁿtyrant."
۝٣٥
Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.
40:36:1waqālᵃAnd said
40:36:2firʕawnᵘFiraun,
40:36:3yāhāmānᵘ"O Haman!
40:36:4ᵢbnⁱConstruct
40:36:5for me
40:36:6ṣarḥaⁿa tower
40:36:7llaʕallīthat I may
40:36:8ʾabluġᵘreach
40:36:9ₐlʾasbābᵃthe ways
۝٣٦
And Pharaoh said, "O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways -
40:37:1ʾasbābᵃ(The) ways
40:37:2ₐlssamāwātⁱ(to) the heavens
40:37:3faʾaṭṭaliʕᵃso I may look
40:37:5ʾilāhⁱ(the) God
40:37:6mūsā(of) Musa;
40:37:7waʾinnīand indeed, I
40:37:8laʾaẓunnuhu[I] surely think him
40:37:9kāðibaⁿ(to be) a liar."
40:37:10wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
40:37:11zuyyinᵃwas made fair-seeming
40:37:12lifirʕawnᵃto Firaun
40:37:13sūʾᵘ(the) evil
40:37:14ʕamalihi(of) his deed,
40:37:15waṣuddᵃand he was averted
40:37:16ʕanⁱfrom
40:37:17ₐlssabīlⁱthe way.
40:37:18wamāAnd not
40:37:19kaydᵘ(was the) plot
40:37:20firʕawnᵃ(of) Firaun
40:37:23tabābⁱⁿruin.
۝٣٧
The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.
40:38:1waqālᵃAnd said
40:38:2ₐllaðīthe one who
40:38:3ʾāmanᵃbelieved,
40:38:4yāqawmⁱ"O my people!
40:38:5ᵢttabiʕūnⁱFollow me;
40:38:6ʾahdikumI will guide you
40:38:7sabīlᵃ(to the) way,
40:38:8ₐlrrašādⁱthe right.
۝٣٨
And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me, I will guide you to the way of right conduct.
40:39:1yāqawmⁱO my people!
40:39:3hāðihⁱthis,
40:39:4ₐlḥayawẗᵘthe life
40:39:5ₐlddunyā(of) the world,
40:39:6matāʕᵘⁿ(is) enjoyment,
40:39:7waʾinnᵃand indeed,
40:39:8ₐlʾāḫiraẗᵃthe Hereafter -
40:39:10dārᵘ(is the) home,
40:39:11ₐlqarārⁱ(of) settlement.
۝٣٩
O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter - that is the home of [permanent] settlement.
40:40:1manWhoever
40:40:2ʕamilᵃdoes
40:40:3sayyiʾaẗᵃⁿan evil
40:40:4falāthen not
40:40:5yujzāhe will be recompensed
40:40:7miθlahā(the) like thereof;
40:40:8wamanand whoever
40:40:9ʕamilᵃdoes
40:40:10ṣāliḥaⁿrighteous (deeds),
40:40:12ðakarⁱⁿmale
40:40:14ʾunθāfemale,
40:40:15wahuwᵃwhile he
40:40:16muʾminᵘⁿ(is) a believer,
40:40:17faʾulāʾikᵃthen those
40:40:18yadḫulūnᵃwill enter
40:40:19ₐljannaẗᵃParadise,
40:40:20yurzaqūnᵃthey will be given provision
40:40:22biġayrⁱwithout
40:40:23ḥisābⁱⁿaccount.
۝٤٠
Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.
