20:111:1waʕanatⁱAnd (will be) humbled
20:111:2ₐlwujūhᵘthe faces
20:111:3lilḥayyⁱbefore the Ever-Living,
20:111:4ₐlqayyūmⁱthe Self-Subsisting.
20:111:5waqadAnd verily
20:111:6ḫābᵃwill have failed
20:111:7man(he) who
20:111:8ḥamalᵃcarried
20:111:9ẓulmaⁿwrongdoing.
۝١١١
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. And he will have failed who carries injustice.
20:112:1wamanBut (he) who
20:112:4ₐlṣṣāliḥātⁱthe righteous deeds
20:112:5wahuwᵃwhile he
20:112:6muʾminᵘⁿ(is) a believer,
20:112:7falāthen not
20:112:8yaḫāfᵘhe will fear
20:112:9ẓulmaⁿinjustice
20:112:11haḍmaⁿdeprivation.
۝١١٢
But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation.
20:113:1wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
20:113:2ʾanzalnāhᵘWe have sent it down,
20:113:3qurʾānaⁿ(the) Quran
20:113:4ʕarabiyyaⁿ(in) Arabic
20:113:5waṣarrafnāand We have explained
20:113:6fīhⁱin it
20:113:8ₐlwaʕīdⁱthe warnings
20:113:9laʕallahumthat they may
20:113:12yuḥdiθᵘit may cause
20:113:13lahum[for] them
20:113:14ðikraⁿremembrance.
۝١١٣
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.
20:114:1fataʕālāSo high (above all)
20:114:2ₐllahᵘ(is) Allah
20:114:3ₐlmalikᵘthe King,
20:114:4ₐlḥaqqᵘthe True.
20:114:5walāAnd (do) not
20:114:7biₐlqurʾānⁱwith the Quran
20:114:10ʾan[that]
20:114:11yuqḍāis completed
20:114:13waḥyuhuits revelation,
20:114:14waquland say,
20:114:15rrabbⁱ"My Lord!
20:114:16zidnīIncrease me
20:114:17ʕilmaⁿ(in) knowledge."
۝١١٤
So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
20:115:1walaqadAnd verily
20:115:2ʕahidnāWe made a covenant
20:115:5minbefore,
20:115:7fanasīᵃbut he forgot;
20:115:11ʕazmaⁿdetermination.
۝١١٥
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.
20:116:1waʾiðAnd when
20:116:3lilmalāʾikaẗⁱto the Angels,
20:116:4ᵤsjudū"Prostrate
20:116:5liʾādamᵃto Adam,"
20:116:6fasajadūthen they prostrated,
20:116:9ʾabāhe refused.
۝١١٦
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.
20:117:1faqulnāThen We said,
20:117:3ʾinnᵃIndeed,
20:117:5ʕaduwwᵘⁿ(is) an enemy
20:117:6llakᵃto you
20:117:7walizawjikᵃand to your wife.
20:117:9yuḫrijannakumā(let) him drive you both
20:117:11ₐljannaẗⁱParadise
20:117:12fatašqāso (that) you would suffer.
۝١١٧
So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.
20:118:1ʾinnᵃIndeed,
20:118:2lakᵃfor you
20:118:3ʾallāthat not
20:118:4tajūʕᵃyou will be hungry
20:118:6walāand not
20:118:7taʕrāyou will be unclothed.
۝١١٨
Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.
20:119:1waʾannakᵃAnd that you
20:119:3taẓmaʾuwill suffer from thirst
20:119:5walāand not
20:119:6taḍḥāexposed to the sun's heat."
۝١١٩
And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun."
20:120:1fawaswasᵃThen whispered
20:120:2ʾilayhⁱto him
20:120:3ₐlššayṭānᵘShaitaan,
20:120:4qālᵃhe said,
20:120:7ʾadullukᵃI direct you
20:120:9šajaraẗⁱ(the) tree
20:120:10ₐlḫuldⁱ(of) the Eternity
20:120:11wamulkⁱⁿand a kingdom
20:120:13yablā(that will) deteriorate?"
۝١٢٠
Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"
20:121:1faʾakalāThen they both ate
20:121:3fabadatso became apparent
20:121:5sawʾātuhumātheir shame
20:121:6waṭafiqāand they began,
20:121:7yaḫṣifānⁱ(to) fasten
20:121:8ʕalayhimāon themselves
20:121:10waraqⁱ(the) leaves
20:121:11ₐljannaẗⁱ(of) Paradise.
20:121:12waʕaṣāAnd Adam disobeyed
20:121:15faġawāand erred.
۝١٢١
And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.
20:122:1θummᵃThen
20:122:2ᵢjtabāhᵘchose him
20:122:3rabbuhuhis Lord,
20:122:4fatābᵃand turned
20:122:5ʕalayhⁱto him
20:122:6wahadāand guided (him).
۝١٢٢
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].
20:123:1qālᵃHe said,
20:123:2ᵢhbiṭā"Go down
20:123:4jamīʕᵃⁿᵐāall,
20:123:5baʕḍukumsome of you
20:123:6libaʕḍⁱⁿto others
20:123:7ʕaduwwᵘⁿ(as) enemy.
20:123:8faʾimmāThen if
20:123:9yaʾtiyannakumcomes to you
20:123:11hudaⁿguidance
20:123:12famanⁱthen whoever,
20:123:13ᵢttabaʕᵃfollows
20:123:14hudāāᵃMy guidance,
20:123:15falāthen not
20:123:16yaḍillᵘhe will go astray
۝١٢٣
[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].
20:124:1wamanAnd whoever
20:124:2ʾaʕraḍᵃturns away
20:124:4ðikrīMy remembrance,
20:124:5faʾinnᵃthen indeed,
20:124:7maʕīšaẗᵃⁿ(is) a life
20:124:8ḍankaⁿstraitened
20:124:9wanaḥšuruhuand We will gather him
20:124:10yawmᵃ(on the) Day
20:124:11ₐlqiyāmaẗⁱ(of) the Resurrection
۝١٢٤
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind."
20:125:1qālᵃHe will say,
20:125:2rabbⁱ"My Lord!
20:125:4ḥašartanīYou raised me
20:125:6waqadwhile [verily]
20:125:7kuntᵘI had
20:125:8baṣīraⁿsight."
۝١٢٥
He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"
20:126:1qālᵃHe will say,
20:126:3ʾatatkᵃcame to you
20:126:4ʾāyātunāOur Signs,
20:126:5fanasītahābut you forgot them,
20:126:6wakaðālikᵃand thus
20:126:8tunsāyou will be forgotten."
۝١٢٦
[Allah] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten."
20:127:1wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
20:127:2najzīWe recompense
20:127:3man(he) who
20:127:4ʾasrafᵃtransgresses,
20:127:6yuʾminᵐbelieves
20:127:7biʾāyātⁱin (the) Signs
20:127:8rabbihi(of) his Lord.
20:127:9walaʕaðābᵘAnd surely (the) punishment
20:127:10ₐlʾāḫiraẗⁱ(of) the Hereafter
20:127:11ʾašaddᵘ(is) more severe
20:127:12waʾabqāand more lasting.
۝١٢٧
And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.
20:128:1ʾafalamThen has not
20:128:2yahdⁱit guided
20:128:3lahum[for] them
20:128:4kamhow many
20:128:5ʾahlaknāWe (have) destroyed
20:128:6qablahumbefore them,
20:128:8ₐlqurūnⁱthe generations,
20:128:9yamšūnᵃ(as) they walk
20:128:11masākinihimtheir dwellings?
20:128:12ʾinnᵃIndeed,
20:128:15laʾāyātⁱⁿsurely (are) Signs
20:128:16lliʾulīfor possessors
20:128:17ₐlnnuhā(of) intelligence.
۝١٢٨
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.
20:129:1walawlāAnd if not
20:129:2kalimaẗᵘⁿ(for) a Word
20:129:3sabaqat(that) preceded
20:129:5rrabbikᵃyour Lord,
20:129:6lakānᵃsurely (would) have been
20:129:7lizāmaⁿan obligation
20:129:8waʾajalᵘⁿand a term
20:129:9mmusammaⁿdetermined.
۝١٢٩
And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, punishment would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed].
20:130:1faᵢṣbirSo be patient
20:130:4yaqūlūnᵃthey say
20:130:5wasabbiḥand glorify
20:130:6biḥamdⁱwith praise
20:130:7rabbikᵃ(of) your Lord
20:130:9ṭulūʕⁱ(the) rising
20:130:10ₐlššamsⁱ(of) the sun
20:130:11waqablᵃand before
20:130:12ġurūbihāits setting;
20:130:14ʾānāʾⁱ(the) hours
20:130:15ₐllaylⁱ(of) the night,
20:130:16fasabbiḥand glorify
20:130:17waʾaṭrāfᵃ(at the) ends
20:130:18ₐlnnahārⁱ(of) the day
20:130:19laʕallakᵃso that you may
20:130:20tarḍābe satisfied.
۝١٣٠
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.
20:131:1walāAnd (do) not
20:131:3ʕaynaykᵃyour eyes
20:131:6mattaʕnāWe have given for enjoyment
20:131:7bihi[with it],
20:131:10zahraẗᵃ(the) splendor
20:131:11ₐlḥayawẗⁱ(of) the life
20:131:12ₐlddunyā(of) the world,
20:131:13linaftinahumthat We may test them
20:131:14fīhⁱin it.
20:131:15warizqᵘAnd (the) provision
20:131:16rabbikᵃ(of) your Lord
20:131:17ḫayrᵘⁿ(is) better
20:131:18waʾabqāand more lasting.
۝١٣١
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.
20:132:1waʾmurAnd enjoin
20:132:2ʾahlakᵃ(on) your family
20:132:3biₐlṣṣalawẗⁱthe prayer
20:132:4waᵢṣṭabirand be steadfast
20:132:7nasʾalukᵃWe ask you
20:132:8rizqaⁿ(for) provision;
20:132:10narzuqukᵃprovide (for) you,
20:132:11waₐlʕāqibaẗᵘand the outcome
20:132:12lilttaqwā(is) for the righteous[ness].
۝١٣٢
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.
20:133:1waqālūAnd they say,
20:133:3yaʾtīnāhe brings us
20:133:4biʾāyaẗⁱⁿa sign
20:133:8taʾtihimcome to them
20:133:9bayyinaẗᵘevidence

۝١٣٣
And they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them evidence of what was in the former scriptures?
20:134:3ʾahlaknāhum(had) destroyed them
20:134:4biʕaðābⁱⁿwith a punishment
20:134:5mminbefore him,
20:134:7laqālūsurely they (would) have said,
20:134:8rabbanā"Our Lord,
20:134:12rasūlaⁿa Messenger,
20:134:13fanattabiʕᵃso we (could) have followed
20:134:14ʾāyātikᵃYour signs
20:134:17ʾan[that]
20:134:18nnaðillᵃwe were humiliated
20:134:19wanaḫzāand disgraced."
۝١٣٤
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?"
20:135:2kullᵘⁿ"Each

۝١٣٥
Say, "Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided."
