۞
2:142:1sayaqūlᵘWill say
2:142:2ₐlssufahāʾᵘthe foolish ones
2:142:3minᵃfrom
2:142:4ₐlnnāsⁱthe people,
2:142:6wallāhum(has) turned them
2:142:8qiblatihimᵘtheir direction of prayer
2:142:9ₐllatīwhich
2:142:10kānūthey were used to
2:142:11ʕalayhā[on it]."
2:142:13llillahⁱ"For Allah
2:142:14ₐlmašriqᵘ(is) the east
2:142:15waₐlmaġribᵘand the west.
2:142:16yahdīHe guides
2:142:18yašāʾᵘHe wills
2:142:20ṣirāṭⁱⁿa path
2:142:21mmustaqīmⁱⁿstraight."
۝١٤٢
The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah, which they used to face?" Say, "To Allah belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path."
2:143:1wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
2:143:2jaʕalnākumWe made you
2:143:3ʾummaẗᵃⁿa community
2:143:4wasaṭaⁿ(of the) middle way
2:143:5llitakūnūso that you will be
2:143:6šuhadāʾᵃwitnesses
2:143:8ₐlnnāsⁱthe mankind,
2:143:9wayakūnᵃand will be
2:143:10ₐlrrasūlᵘthe Messenger
2:143:12šahīdaⁿa witness.
2:143:13wamāAnd not
2:143:15ₐlqiblaẗᵃthe direction of prayer
2:143:17kuntᵃyou were used to
2:143:20linaʕlamᵃthat We make evident
2:143:21man(he) who
2:143:22yattabiʕᵘfollows
2:143:23ₐlrrasūlᵃthe Messenger
2:143:24mimmanfrom (he) who
2:143:25yanqalibᵘturns back
2:143:27ʕaqibayhⁱhis heels.
2:143:28waʾinAnd indeed,
2:143:30lakabīraẗᵃⁿcertainly a great (test)
2:143:33ₐllaðīnᵃthose whom
2:143:35ₐllahᵘ(by) Allah.
2:143:36wamāAnd not
2:143:38ₐllahᵘAllah
2:143:39liyuḍīʕᵃlet go waste
2:143:40ʾīmānakumyour faith.
2:143:41ʾinnᵃIndeed,
2:143:42ₐllahᵃAllah
2:143:43biₐlnnāsⁱ(is) to [the] mankind
2:143:44laraʾūfᵘⁿFull of Kindness,
2:143:45rraḥīmᵘⁿMost Merciful.
۝١٤٣
And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.
2:144:1qadIndeed,
2:144:3taqallubᵃ(the) turning
2:144:4wajhikᵃ(of) your face
2:144:5towards
2:144:6ₐlssamāʾⁱthe heaven.
2:144:7falanuwalliyannakᵃSo We will surely turn you
2:144:8qiblaẗᵃⁿ(to the) direction of prayer
2:144:9tarḍāhāyou will be pleased with.
2:144:10fawallⁱSo turn
2:144:11wajhakᵃyour face
2:144:12šaṭrᵃtowards the direction
2:144:13ₐlmasjidⁱ(of) Al-Masjid
2:144:14ₐlḥarāmⁱAl-Haraam
2:144:15waḥayθᵘand wherever
2:144:19wujūhakumyour faces
2:144:20šaṭrahu(in) its direction.
2:144:21waʾinnᵃAnd indeed,
2:144:22ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
2:144:23ʾūtūwere given
2:144:24ₐlkitābᵃthe Book
2:144:25layaʕlamūnᵃsurely know
2:144:26ʾannahᵘthat it
2:144:27ₐlḥaqqᵘ(is) the truth
2:144:29rrabbihimtheir Lord.
2:144:30wamāAnd not
2:144:31ₐllahᵘ(is) Allah
2:144:32biġāfilⁱⁿunaware
2:144:33ʕammāof what
2:144:34yaʕmalūnᵃthey do.
۝١٤٤
We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it [in prayer]. Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what they do.
2:145:1walaʾinAnd even if
2:145:2ʾataytᵃyou come
2:145:3ₐllaðīnᵃ(to) those who
2:145:4ʾūtūwere given
2:145:5ₐlkitābᵃthe Book
2:145:6bikullⁱwith all
2:145:7ʾāyaẗⁱⁿ(the) signs,
2:145:9tabiʕūthey would follow
2:145:10qiblatakᵃyour direction of prayer,
2:145:12ʾantᵃ(will) you (be)
2:145:13bitābiʕⁱⁿa follower
2:145:14qiblatahum(of) their direction of prayer.
2:145:15wamāAnd not
2:145:16baʕḍuhumsome of them
2:145:17bitābiʕⁱⁿ(are) followers
2:145:18qiblaẗᵃ(of the) direction of prayer
2:145:19baʕḍⁱⁿ(of each) other.
2:145:20walaʾinⁱAnd if
2:145:21ᵢttabaʕtᵃyou followed
2:145:22ʾahwāʾahumtheir desires
2:145:26jāʾakᵃcame to you
2:145:28ₐlʕilmⁱthe knowledge,
2:145:29ʾinnakᵃindeed, you
2:145:30ʾiðaⁿ(would) then
2:145:31llaminᵃ(be) surely among
2:145:32ₐlẓẓālimīnᵃthe wrongdoers.
۝١٤٥
And if you brought to those who were given the Scripture every sign, they would not follow your qiblah. Nor will you be a follower of their qiblah. Nor would they be followers of one another's qiblah. So if you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, indeed, you would then be among the wrongdoers.
2:146:1ₐllaðīnᵃ(To) those whom
2:146:2ʾātaynāhumᵘWe gave [them]
2:146:3ₐlkitābᵃthe Book,
2:146:4yaʕrifūnahuthey recognize it
2:146:6yaʕrifūnᵃthey recognize
2:146:7ʾabnāʾahumtheir sons.
2:146:8waʾinnᵃAnd indeed,
2:146:9farīqaⁿa group
2:146:11layaktumūnᵃsurely they conceal
2:146:12ₐlḥaqqᵃthe Truth
2:146:13wahumwhile they
۝١٤٦
Those to whom We gave the Scripture know him as they know their own sons. But indeed, a party of them conceal the truth while they know [it].
2:147:1ₐlḥaqqᵘThe Truth
2:147:2min(is) from
2:147:3rrabbikᵃyour Lord,
2:147:4falāso (do) not
2:147:6minᵃamong
2:147:7ₐlmumtarīnᵃthe doubters.
۝١٤٧
The truth is from your Lord, so never be among the doubters.
2:148:1walikullⁱⁿAnd for everyone
2:148:2wijhaẗᵘⁿ(is) a direction -
2:148:4muwallīhāturns towards it,
2:148:6ₐlḫayrātⁱ(to) the good.
2:148:7ʾaynᵃWherever
2:148:9takūnūyou will be
2:148:10yaʾtⁱwill bring
2:148:12ₐllahᵘ(by) Allah
2:148:13jamīʕaⁿtogether.
2:148:14ʾinnᵃIndeed,
2:148:15ₐllahᵃAllah
2:148:17kullⁱevery
2:148:18šayʾⁱⁿthing
2:148:19qadīrᵘⁿAll-Powerful.
۝١٤٨
For each [religious following] is a direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [for judgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.
2:149:1waminAnd from
2:149:2ḥayθᵘwherever
2:149:3ḫarajtᵃyou start forth,
2:149:4fawallⁱ[so] turn
2:149:5wajhakᵃyour face
2:149:6šaṭrᵃ(in the) direction
2:149:7ₐlmasjidⁱ(of) Al-Masjid
2:149:8ₐlḥarāmⁱAl-Haraam.
2:149:9waʾinnahuAnd indeed, it
2:149:10lalḥaqqᵘ(is) surely the truth
2:149:12rrabbikᵃyour Lord.
2:149:13wamāAnd not
2:149:14ₐllahᵘ(is) Allah
2:149:15biġāfilⁱⁿunaware
2:149:16ʕammāof what
2:149:17taʕmalūnᵃyou do.
۝١٤٩
So from wherever you go out [for prayer, O Muhammad] turn your face toward al- Masjid al-Haram, and indeed, it is the truth from your Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
2:150:1waminAnd from
2:150:2ḥayθᵘwherever
2:150:3ḫarajtᵃyou start forth
2:150:4fawallⁱ[so] turn
2:150:5wajhakᵃyour face
2:150:6šaṭrᵃ(in the) direction
2:150:7ₐlmasjidⁱ(of) Al-Masjid
2:150:8ₐlḥarāmⁱAl-Haraam.
2:150:9waḥayθᵘAnd wherever
2:150:11kuntumyou (all) are
2:150:13wujūhakumyour faces
2:150:14šaṭrahu(in) its direction,
2:150:15liʾallāso that not
2:150:16yakūnᵃwill be
2:150:17lilnnāsⁱfor the people
2:150:18ʕalaykumagainst you
2:150:19ḥujjaẗᵘⁿany argument
2:150:21ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
2:150:23minhumamong them;
2:150:24falāso (do) not
2:150:25taḫšawhumfear them,
2:150:26waᵢḫšawnībut fear Me.
2:150:27waliʾutimmᵃAnd that I complete
2:150:30walaʕallakum[and] so that you may
2:150:31tahtadūnᵃ(be) guided.
۝١٥٠
And from wherever you go out [for prayer], turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] may be, turn your faces toward it in order that the people will not have any argument against you, except for those of them who commit wrong; so fear them not but fear Me. And [it is] so I may complete My favor upon you and that you may be guided.
2:151:3fīkumamong you
2:151:4rasūlaⁿa Messenger
2:151:6yatlū(who) recites
2:151:8ʾāyātināOur verses
2:151:9wayuzakkīkumand purifies you
2:151:10wayuʕallimukumᵘand teaches you
2:151:11ₐlkitābᵃthe Book
2:151:12waₐlḥikmaẗᵃand the wisdom
2:151:13wayuʕallimukumand teaches you
2:151:17taʕlamūnᵃknowing.
۝١٥١
Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom and teaching you that which you did not know.
2:152:1faᵤðkurūnīSo remember Me,
2:152:2ʾaðkurkumI will remember you
2:152:3waᵤškurūand be grateful
2:152:5walāand (do) not
2:152:6takfurūnⁱ(be) ungrateful to Me.
۝١٥٢
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
2:153:2ₐllaðīnᵃwho
2:153:3ʾāmanūbelieve[d]!
2:153:4ᵢstaʕīnūSeek help
2:153:5biₐlṣṣabrⁱthrough patience

2:153:7ʾinnᵃIndeed,
2:153:8ₐllahᵃAllah
2:153:9maʕᵃ(is) with
2:153:10ₐlṣṣābirīnᵃthe patient ones.
۝١٥٣
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
2:154:1walāAnd (do) not
2:154:3limanfor (the ones) who
2:154:4yuqtalᵘare slain

2:154:10ʾaḥyāʾᵘⁿ(they are) alive
2:154:11walākin[and] but
2:154:12llāyou (do) not
2:154:13tašʕurūnᵃperceive.
۝١٥٤
And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.
2:155:1walanabluwannakumAnd surely We will test you
2:155:2bišayʾⁱⁿwith something
2:155:4ₐlḫawfⁱ[the] fear
2:155:5waₐljūʕⁱand [the] hunger
2:155:6wanaqṣⁱⁿand loss
2:155:8ₐlʾamwālⁱ[the] wealth
2:155:9waₐlʾanfusⁱand [the] lives
2:155:10waₐlθθamarātⁱand [the] fruits,
2:155:11wabašširⁱbut give good news
2:155:12ₐlṣṣābirīnᵃ(to) the patient ones.
۝١٥٥
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
2:156:1ₐllaðīnᵃThose who,
2:156:3ʾaṣābathumstrikes them

۝١٥٦
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."
2:157:3ṣalawātᵘⁿ(are) blessings

۝١٥٧
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
